As part of a 2023-24 project that received support from The Commonwealth Fund, CSG offered the opportunity for states to request technical assistance and action planning sessions to identify pressing needs related to the long-term care workforce and policy opportunities. During these events, invited policymakers could:
Hawaii and Pennsylvania were among the states that asked CSG to participate in and help plan long-term care summits in February and June 2024. Summits were designed to define the long-term care workforce policy agenda in those states. The articles below describe these activities:
Any state elected or appointed official can request a technical assistance site visit event from CSG and its partners. Requests from legislative or executive branch staff may be accepted under some circumstances. CSG retains ultimate decision-making authority and will consider each request in relation to scheduling, travel costs, member engagement and other factors. The individual or office requesting technical assistance should have the capacity to bring a bipartisan, bicameral, interbranch group of policymakers to the table; coordinate scheduling and promotion of the event; identify the specific focus of the discussion and need for assistance; and the stakeholder groups and subject-matter experts it might be helpful to hear from. The requesting individual or office must also be able to provide a suitable venue for the technical assistance site visit (i.e., committee hearing room at the state capitol, etc.). The bifurcated program of information exchange/stakeholder engagement and action planning can take place over the course of one day or be spread across two days.
Although the 2023-24 project has now concluded, CSG continues to welcome requests for assistance and consultation in planning similar events incorporating the CSG “State Strategies to Revitalize the Long-Term Care Workforce” framework.
