In celebration of the Month of the Military Child, CSG members who are in the military and those who are military children are sharing their thoughts on the significant role military-connected kids play in our communities. Hear from Kansas state Rep. Pat Proctor, Colonel, U.S. Army, retired:
“As a 25-year veteran of the Army, with tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other remote locations around the world, I spent over six years away from my family. I missed far too many of my children’s birthdays, sporting events, and parent-teacher conferences. I even missed the birth of my first grandchild. And when I was home, we were frequently moving to a new duty station, where my kids had to integrate into a new school, and make new friends to replace the ones they left behind.
As a servicemember, I was frequently thanked for my service. But no one ever thanks military kids for their service. They are born into the life of sacrifice that they have to lead. They don’t get a choice in the matter.
So, on behalf of a grateful nation, to every military child, past and present, Thank you for your service!”
