Weekly Update: April 12 – News and Resources for State Leaders

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, a $1.9 trillion economic relief package, was signed by the president on March 11. Part of this package includes the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, which provides approximately $350 billion in new federal fiscal assistance for states, territories, tribes, counties and municipalities. An additional $10 billion is available to states, territories and tribal governments for critical capital projects that directly enable work, education and health monitoring in response to COVID-19. 

The Council of State Governments developed an analysis for states on the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, which is available at this link. CSG will continue to monitor new developments from the federal government to provide additional analysis, information and resources to our members.

Analysis of the American Rescue Plan: K-12 Education Funding

The American Rescue Plan provides over $137 billion to early childhood and K-12 schools to reopen safely, make up for lost learning opportunities and address inequities made worse by the pandemic. CLICK HERE

Analysis of the American Rescue Plan: Employers

Of the $1.9 trillion in funding in the American Rescue Plan, at least $62.4 billion is included to help private-sector employers stay in business, retain employees, provide sick leave and family medical care leave and respond more generally to the impact of COVID-19. CLICK HERE

According to the White House, the American Jobs Plan proposes an investment of $2 trillion over the course of the next 15 years, consisting principally of one-time capital investments. CSG provides an overview of the American Jobs Plan and how industries are impacted. CLICK HERE

The White House released state-by-state fact sheets that highlight the need in every state across the country for investments proposed in the American Jobs Plan. The state-by-state fact sheets highlight the number of bridges and miles of road in each state in poor condition, the percentage of households without access to broadband, the cost for water infrastructure and additional needs. Availability of COVID-19 Vaccination Scheduling Websites and Phone Hotlines

The Council of State Governments reviewed the access of centralized systems for scheduling COVID-19 vaccinations. Discover those findings as well as more information on available online and by-phone scheduling tools. CLICK HERE
