Building Community Resilience through Innovation and Partnerships

Historic amounts of grant funding will flow into states in 2021 to use for pre-disaster mitigation and large infrastructure projects from the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) Program through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The new BRIC program allows states and local communities to shift from reactive disaster spending and instead take forward-leaning and innovative approaches to building resilience, including public-private partnerships and nature-based solutions. Learn how this unprecedented opportunity can be leveraged to build climate and disaster resilience, reinforce equity and encourage stronger economies.

This fourth and final webinar in the Teacher Licensure Series will explore best practices for states in building resilient models of teacher licensure that attract and retain highly qualified educators while allowing for interstate mobility. Speakers will share research on current state models of licensure, their strengths and weaknesses and how they permit or impede interstate mobility. Speakers will explore how an interstate compact for teacher licensure can help states attract and retain talent, combat teacher shortages, leverage talent from other states and provide greater interstate mobility for teachers.

Sustainability in the COVID Era Policy Academy

While states and many industries have recognized the benefits of sustainable practices for decades, 2020 may have redefined the concepts of sustainability as nearly every industry faced crises in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. This policy academy will address how industries were able to navigate a sustainable course amidst the pandemic and how corporate practices may evolve in a post-coronavirus economy. The program will also highlight states that are working to keep ambitious sustainability initiatives on track, provide an examination of how public health concerns and new economic realities that could prompt cities to evolve, and forecast ways that principles and practices of sustainability could provide a path to post-COVID economic recovery.
